The State Center redevelopment offers the rare chance to build on the tremendous economic power of the State's office presence in Baltimore and knit together existing transit, cultural, institutional, university, and neighborhood assets.
The ultimate vision for State Center is a diverse, inclusive, mixed-use, mixed-income community that promotes public transportation, maximizes the use and interest in public open spaces, and provides for an active, walkable street environment.
The development team realizes that this vision will only be achievable through an inclusive, transparent and respectful public planning process that includes the larger community, the State, the City and the development team.
State Center
Overview
The State Center complex is the largest concentration of State government offices in Maryland. Located in mid-town Baltimore City, State Center comprises approximately twenty-five acres around the State Center/Cultural Center Metro Station and across from the Cultural Center Light Rail Station.
State Center is now the focus of a cooperative effort between the State of Maryland and the City of Baltimore to revitalize the State’s office complex and the surrounding communities through extensive redevelopment and the application of Transit Orientated Development (TOD) principles. The ultimate goal of this effort is to connect and integrate the State’s office complex with the surround neighborhoods and in the process become on the City’s most attractive arts, entertainment, retail and residential districts.
Charged with implementing this goal in conjunction with the State is the private development team consisting of Struever Bros. Ecccles & Rouse (SBER), McCormack Barron Salazar (MBS) and Doracon Development. This team was unanimously selected by an evaluation panel consisting of neighborhood representatives, local institutional stakeholders, state & city agencies and elected officials.
